In 1939, British war planners assumed that as heavy fighting continues in Western Europe, it would become more and more a struggle over fortified redoubts like the Seigfried Line. So a new kind of tank was put to concept, and historians refer to it as an assault tanks. The assault tank gave up mobility for heavier armor and a much heavier cannon, in this case a 94mm gun also called a 32 pounder. Six prototypes were actually made of this tank, but most of them finished in 1946, a little late. This tank required a crew of 7, protected by 7 to 9 inches of steel plating, and moved at a top speed of 12 mph.
