Before the Germans invaded, the French military had been looking over the border at German tank warfare and decided they needed a newer, larger tank. What they created was a concept finished in wood only,. But the mock up is immense and the concept is really innovational. It’s as much a battleship on wheels as it is a tank. The Char Lourd, or “heavy tank” would have 100 mm of armor plating, and a 90 mm gun, which would have given the French a larger gun than the Germans had even put on their Mark VI Tiger. There was to be a secondary weapon, a 47mm cannon and six machine guns. And no production. The Germans destroyed the factory during the invasion.
