Israel And Nukes

Dimona, Israeli Nuclear Facility

“The U.S., with the 188 other member nations of the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty, has greenlighted a conference in 2012 that’s aimed at creating a nuke-free Middle East. But Israel, which is not a member of the NPT, balked at the agreement, calling it “deeply flawed and hypocritical,” because it—and not Iran—is named in the document. (Many Western nations believe Iran’s nuclear program is meant to produce weapons, not just power.) National Security Adviser Gen. James Jones said the U.S. has “serious reservations” about the conference, and that full arms control compliance by all nations in the area is essential to eliminating WMDs there; Jones also said the U.S. “deplores” the naming of Israel.”
