General William Tecumseh Sherman, Grant's right hand.

William Tecumseh Sherman professed that he hated profiteers, politicians, and sentimentalists. Above all, he hated reporters. He felt they revealed war secrets just to sell newspapers.

“These dirty newspaper scribblers have the impudence of Satan. They come into camp and poke about the lazy shirkers and pick up camp rumors and then publish them as facts.”

He went on, “If I killed all of them tonight there’d be news from Hell before breakfast.”
