Great Videos Of The Old Soviet Supersonic T-4 Heavy Bomber Prototype.

by Daniel Russ on January 5, 2010

It looked like the Tu-44 and the Conchord. But it was only in the air for about 10 hours. On August 22, 1972, chief pilot and hero of the USSR V.S. Ilyushin and Commander A. Alferov took off from Zhukovsky flight center. The flight lasted 40 minutes. The T-4 reached Mach 1.36 at a height of about 12000 meters. By March, 1974 the program was cancelled.

One T-4 survives today and is on display at the Monino Museum near Moscow.
