Tim Byrnes out of New York University’s Shanghai’s campus notes: “China has achieved staggering things with quantum research… It’s amazing how quickly China has gotten on with quantum research projects that would be too expensive to do elsewhere… quantum communication has been taken up by the commercial sector much more in China compared to other countries, which means it is likely to pull ahead of Europe and US in the field of quantum communication.”

We now learn that China is launching a new global communications grid called Jinan. Jinan will be a quantum grid that is un-hackable. Anytime there is another system monitoring communications in a system, quantum effects will alert the administrators that there is another observer. The land based QKD or Quantum Key Distribution system will be 2000 miles long. It represents a quantum leap in communications and they are now ahead of us on this matter.
