Well The NIAI (Naoochno-Issledovatel’skiy Aero-Institoot – scientific test aero-institute) dreamed up a variable geometry aircraft, one that would change shape to take advantage of conditions and environment or mission requirements. This was original The main wings separate along their length and slide away from wach other ceating an opening between them. The opening is then covered by a new wing surface that telescopes over the separate wings and the empty section. The extendeding come sin six sections and can be expanded in stages according to the exact requests of the pilot.

The prototype was a steel tube design with a wooden monoplane wing. The wing reconfigurations were made by hand crank by a man in the tandem seat.
