The XB-19 project was a clandestine attempt to build the Army Air Corps an advanced long-range bomber. Beginning on February 5, 1935, the US Army Air Corps declared and named the initiative “Project D” or XBLR, experimental long range bomber.  This top secret long ranged advanced bomber was the largest plane the US prior to 1936.

The production schedule was so behind Douglas Aircraft wanted to cancel the project. It would have required a crew of 18 and featured a 218 foot wingspan. This 80 ton plane would have had a top speed of 250 miles an hour. It would have been bristling with armament: five M2 Browning .50 caliber machine guns, 6 7.62mm guns, and two 37mm auto canons.
