In 1945, with the Barbarians at the gates of Germania, the German aeronautical industry was still busy sketching out what would otherwise be the future weapons of the Third Reich. One of the more interesting concepts was a ramjet powered fighter that a single operator laid prone inside. The pilot, essentially on his stomach would launch his plane with exterior rockets on a tricycle chassis of wheels, and the wheels and empty rockets fall off harmlessly onto the runway when the plane is airborne. The rockets would propel the plane at speeds that would allow the pilot to prime the ramjet. A single 30 mm cannon over the canopy is enough armament to bring down the bombers that were burning Germany effulgent in the night. The pilot landed the craft with retractable skids.
