In World War I, France was far ahead of the United States in weapon technologies. France invented the modern tank, and had many variants on the battlefield and in stages of development. The first US tank divisions as often as not found themselves fighting the French Renault FT
The Ford 3 ton was 3 tons in weight and had a crew of two, a driver and gunner who manned a Browning .30 machine gun. It was powered by two Ford Model T engines. The first fifteen were produced and once one was tested in France, an order for 15,000 was awarded, but soon thereafter cancelled because of the armistice.
