Vincent Bendix, the creator of a model of washing machines opened Bendix Helicopters. Bendix had successfully created a method starting a car with the Bendix drive, a gear that could move an engine at zero rotational speed. It made him veru rich and he decided to try is hand at aviation.

This interesting design had tandem stacked rotors on a single axial. The fuselage was small and required no vertical stabilizer. It was the first successful counter rotating system.

The Model J was developed in 1946 and 1947 but the US was unimpressed and bought none of them. The company closed and sold to Gyrodyne.
