Afghani Jezail

The Jezail wasa reverse engineered musket or rifle made from western firearms by Aghanis after the invasion of Britain. Typically a musket, with parts often stolen from Brown Bess of the British Army, these were long range weapons and were used to effect on the British retreating from Kabul to Jalalabad during the First Afghan War in 1839.

British commanders were terrified of Jezail armed snipers. The gun itself was long and unwieldy and so heavy it was often fired with a tripod.
