IRIS-T air to air missile

IRIS-T, manufactured by Bodenseewerk Geratecknik (BGT), SAAB, and Alenia is slaved to the pilot’s eye sensor. It is now replacing the venerable AIM-9 Sidewinder.

Where are the news organizations in this country?

Sources: Strategy Page, blog-rolled here.

This is fairly big news in air to air weaponry. The IRIS-T is based on the AA-11 Archer made by the Russians, that had a gimballed seeker eye and out performed the Sidewinder in recent aggressor training sessions.

I mean whoa.

I’d be very careful of strategypage, their analysis is questionable at best.

that said, I talked to a retired AF General who said that the sidewinder had competition at the last two aggressor training exercise and that the Germans had already chosen a derivative of the AA-11.

So this may be right.

Thanks for the visit though.
